Re: Scaleforum 2022
Just noticed the following on the website of the High Wycombe & District Model Railway Society - http://www.hwdmrs.org.uk/ - relating to Wycrail 2022 due to be held on the 5th November.
"Due to the current COVID-19 situation around organising large events we have reluctantly made the decision to cancel Wycrail 2022."
As the CMRA Webmaster I've confirmed with the Society whether this is correct and unfortunately it seems to be - "due to ongoing issues with the school venue."
As the venue is the Cressex Community School being used for Scaleforum 2022 it might be worth following up?
Regards Adrian

Re: Scaleforum 2022
On behalf of the Scaleforum Organising Team, I met with the officers from Cressex School responsible for our booking last Friday, 11 March.
The meeting was very helpful and they are definitely expecting to welcome the Society to the School for Scaleforum in September. There was no indication of any road-blocks which will prevent our Show going ahead at this stage.
More details of the planned return to in person Exhibitions will be provided in due course and the Committee look forward to welcoming a large proportion of our Members at Cressex School in September.

Following a question in another thread, I've been looking through old PROTOtypes - the 1977 Protofour convention had a thousand visitors, and 100 new members! Maybe the Cressex meeting will generate some interest?

Let’s hope so Tim.
We need to see an increase in attendance, from the Members in particular, to make these Society-focussed shows viable both now and in the future.
Fingers crossed!

Re: Scaleforum 2022
I fear rising fuel prices will put a lot of people off travelling. I see reports suggesting there could be further rises of up to 50% with diesel hitting £3 a litre and little respite before the end of 2023. That will certainly make it unaffordable for me to attend.

Having just filled the car up with petrol at £1:61.9/litre, I found the following,

There's always public transport. Hopefully Cressex will be easier to get to from the west than Aylesbury was.

I did. Didn't you notice that I hadn't commented on the content, so wasn't implying that the £3:00/litre was not a possibility.
I don't know how much difference it would make to your total travel cost for S4um, but perhaps there are ways - car share being one - that could make it viable.

Not sure about that. Isn’t High Wycombe also served from Marylebone by Chiltern Railways? Possibly Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street trains

Re: Scaleforum 2022
High Wycombe is on the direct Chilterns services from Birmingham Moor Street to Marylebone (via Banbury).
It therefore saves one change of trains when heading from the north compared to getting to Aylesbury.
The venue is also right next to the M40 with good car parking for visitors.
Although the Society can’t control the price of fuel there are at least reasonable alternative travel options.

It could also pay havoc with the costings for visiting layouts and traders.

The cost of a barrel of oil has already dropped back from $130 to only $100. Not quite $75 at the end of last year but going in the right direction.
Not soemwhere I'd drive to from Carlisle but train is a possibility, if I can get a babysitter for two days!

I thought you were part of the DRAG demo team this year, David, which I understand means that your fuel costs would be covered?

About 5/6 weeks later and pump prices remain much the same in this area - anything between £1.599 and £1.649/ltr for basic unleaded, and £1.749 to £1.789 for diesel.
That would be an ecumenical matter.

Re: Scaleforum 2022
Hi All,
Just had a look at the dedicated Scaleforum website at https://www.scaleforum.org/ which has been updated with details for this year.
Looking through some of the links however, am I correct in that at least one of the pages refers to the virtual Scaleforum held last year and has yet to be updated?
For example the Show Index page https://www.scaleforum.org/show-index/ lists the layouts and demonstrators that I believe entertained us in 2021 or are they all booked to attend this year?
Regards
Adrian

Hi Adrian,
Thanks for looking at the webpage.
Your observation is quite correct. I've been working through and updating the material as time permits, and information becomes available. So far, I have been able to do the Layouts page and the Traders page - the traders currently still in italics are those have been invited but not yet confirmed. I haven't put a key on, as I'm hoping that they will respond quickly.
I'll have a good go at pulling the rest of the content that relates to previous years as soon as I can.
Do come back and look again soon!
Cheers
Paul
