Croissants in the West Riding?
Things have certainly changed since I lived there... But with the prospect of such wonderful fare on offer, I'll spread the word in a couple of other places.
Cheers

I would prefer a Belgian Bun (from Martin's Bakery in Ipswich). However, following Brexit I suppose I should really choose an Eccles Cake, a London Cheesecake, a Bakewell Tart, a Chorley Cake or, if feeling rich, a Chelsea Bun. Other local specialities are available.

Well, since we are being international, may I recommend either a gâteau Basque or a Cinnamon Danish from Eric the Baker in Guelph?

S4N sticks in my mind far more for curries than croissants, so may have to line one up for the evening.

I hadn't realised that we were a food appreciation society as well! It goes to show how important the catering is at our events.
Sorry about the lack of a Bring and Buy, Penrhos, we're working our socks off as it is! Why not take it easy and put your feet up in the West Riding Lounge instead? Return here a week on Friday for further details. This week it's the cinema programme!
Derek.

Not French, but a Belgian francophone, and the correct translation of "the children these days" is "les enfants de nos jours" (although a Belgian might well say "les enfants d'aujourd'hui", just to emphasise the difference between French french and Belgian french, even the alphabets being different!).

Ah, they speak a totally different form of french in Paris, full of near incomprehensible (and constantly changing) argot. Even many French people have difficulty understanding Parisians. Many years ago a short-lived French soap called Chateauvallon was aired on Channel 4 in the UK, it used to amuse me greatly that it was supposed to be set in the Loire Valley, where the least accented (and therefore easiest to understand french) is spoken, and yet all the actors spoke typically Parisian french.

Oddly enough, when I was in Montreal a couple of years ago, I found the French much easier to understand than during my monthly trips to Paris. But there again, that is Paris...
Somehow, and I said this to my hosts, it seemed more "clean" than the Parisian voices I was used to hearing. More precise, words elucidated more clearly.
I guess that it's all down to perspective.
Cheers
Paul
