As many of you will know, the Committee took the position that Scalefour North would go ahead this year unless the event was cancelled by the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School or that Government advice changed from what it was when our decision was made. That situation has now been reached with today's Government statement by the Prime Minister to avoid all non-essential travel and non-essential contact. Whilst we all enjoy our events, they cannot be regarded as essential in the wider scheme of things, hence our decision to cancel.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to James Dickie and his team, who have put in a lot of hard work to organise this year's event, unfortunately all now in vain. I would also like to thank those members who have expressed their support for the Committee at this difficult time, it is very much appreciated.
Given the expected peak of Coronavirus, our AGM must be in doubt. We will, of course keep you posted.
John Chambers
Chairman.

Re: Scalefour North Cancellation
If the government's advice is followed (as it should be) it looks as though all meetings and events up to the end of June at the earliest will have to be cancelled.
The government has not called for such cancellations, but if people heed the latest government advice, no-one will turn up at any events or meetings that may be held. So, to avoid a crashing loss, the organisers will have little choice but to pull the plug.

Re: Scalefour North Cancellation
Dear all,
It has been mooted by one or two EMAG members that we might like to contribute our entrance fee as if we were to attend Scalefour North.
I'm sure if enough people do this, our losses would be reduced.
How could this be done? Could we apply for advance tickets?
Also mentioned was a plea, from David Clarke, to support our specialist suppliers and order by mail.
They are the life blood of our hobby and it would be awful if even one of these folded. Let's support them too.
Regards,
Ken

Hi Ken,
Many thanks for your very generous offer to help financially but we couldn't possibly take anyone's money without giving something in return. We do appreciate such supportive comments and suggestions so thanks again.
I would add that I entirely echo David's comments on supporting our traders. After all, we were all going to spend money, weren't we?
John.

As all those members over 70 ( my guess, at least 25% ), now have 12 weeks fulltime modelling so will need to spend loads of dosh for the little bits to support the kit mountain !

I am sorry about the, almost inevitable, cancellation.
Many thanks to James and team for a series of most enjoyable S4um Norths and best wishes to the new team.

The annual trip to Wakefield has been an event that members of the Bristol group looked forward to.
A good model show, a good curry, enjoyable beer and company.
Live in hope for next year.

Re: Scalefour North Cancellation
Perhaps the same line up could be used next year where possible. This should help reduce the burden on the organisation for next year and ensure all the effort getting layouts ready for the show isn’t wasted. Very disappointed about this but it is the right decision.

I had been looking forward to attending the show with both the CSP Models and Cumbria Railways Association (CRA) stands for the first time this year!
CRA - if you are looking for reading material or plans/photographs, several thousand thumbnails have recently been uploaded, to help with your modelling or just to fill some time then please visit our website: www.cumbrianrailways.org.uk
CSP Models - we will do our best to fulfill orders as soon as possible but we are reliant on other suppliers for some parts and if there is any failure in the supply chain we may have problems! Even the Royal Mail may have problems, if they have staff sickness and will we be able to access a post office?

Look after yourselves and we hope to see you somewhere in the future.

A question for the committee. Seeing Martin's quote below, what is going to happen to the AGM, due to take place on the 13th June in Bristol?

Hi Dave,
We are currently looking at what we can do. Its unlikely that the AGM will take place as scheduled but we will inform the membership as soon as a decision has been reached.
John.

Re: Scalefour North Cancellation
Not unexpected news really, and probably the correct option given all the available options.
Finances would have meant I wouldn't have been able to make it either way. But still a shame to miss such an excellent show.
I'll look forward hopefully to next years show.

Re: Scalefour North Cancellation
Unfortunately, cancellation of Scalefour North and Railex means that I will not be able to receive membership renewals at these shows as I normally do.
Therefore, if you haven't yet renewed then please now do so either online at https://www.scalefour.org/membership/renew or via mail by completing the paper renewal form that came with Scalefour News 216, or you can download one from the Membership Renewals page on the website, and sending it back go me.
Thank you for your understanding.
Stay safe.
