Derby 2019 MRE

Postby Hardwicke » Tue May 14, 2019 10:04 pm

Derby 2019 MRE was once again in the 1838 Roundhouse. A very good show. I was on two stands. Scalefour and Ivatt Diesel ReCreation Society (LMS 10000).

The buildings on Sidmouth are an inspiration. I like particularly that Edwardian semi, which nicely illustrates what, for me, is one of the attractions of modelling a real prototype rather than a freelance design: you have to find ways of representing what was there, whatever the challenges of doing so may be. In addition the process of discovering the 'what was there' in itself frequently poses significant challenges: the spate of home improvements, loft extensions, conservatories, etc, coupled with the widespread installation of double glazing has in many cases made it extremely difficult to discern the true appearance of our residential housing stock as little as 50 years ago.
