Exeter MRS Show 02/03 July please any directions

Evening all

Could anyone advise on the easiest way to get from St Davids (or any other station) to Matford to see the show on the Saturday afternoon

I know where Matford is, but only vaguely from post work taxi travel, nearly a decade ago,in the dark!......

IF any can help, I'd be quite grateful

Bus H from Exeter St Davids to Exeter City Center, Marks and Spencer (Stop 7). From there you need to walk to Exeter City Centre, South Street (Stop 8).

Walk in a south-easterly direction along Queen Street
After 20m, turn right into High Street
After 175m, turn left into South Street
After 40m arrive at Exeter City Centre, South Street (Stop 8)

Bus GRN (towards Matford Park & Ride) from Exeter City Centre, South Street (Stop 8) to Matford Park Road, and get off near the Livestock Centre, the stop near Carrs Ferrari and Maserati dealership is your best bet.

About a 40 minute Journey.

There is of course a P4 show-within-a-show at this event, as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations.

The Exe MRS website gives the impression that there are rather more P4 working layouts attending than is actually the case, so just to be clear:

Sidmouth is part of the main show

In the Scalefour Society area, Horsley Bank and Nottingham Goods will be operating.

Lambeth Walk (new layout by Maurice Hopper) will hopefully be running in a work-in-progress manner.

The Ouse Valley Viaduct will be a static exhibit (you will have to wait until Scaleforum to see it in operation).

Bodmin (General) is the one recovered by DRAG and in process of rebuilding/extension, not the NLG layout, this will be a display similar to that shown in the DRAG area at Scaleforum last year.

The Society stand will be there, together with various other demos and displays.

We had a very enjoyable day with our 40th anniversary 'show within a show'. It was nice to catch up with several of the usual S4um regulars who dropped in.

The standout layout for me in the main show was 'Sidmouth' with its exquisite buildings in the front.

Very good day as John says despite the long drive home, which very surprisingly, was on an almost empty A303 and M3. It was a bit like the M1 on opening day at times, quite odd.

The houses outside the station buildings on Sidmouth were exquisite, agreed. As was the rest of the layout. For me, I felt the view from the buffer stops under the station canopy with all the paraphernalia hanging from the girders said more clearly 'Southern' than anything I have ever seen. I had no camera, unfortunately!

It was nice to see the little Scalefour 40th anniversary presence as well, with Paul Willis watching over the Society stand and trying to convert at least one chap to P4. And I had always thought that David Brandreth had just built a few road vehicles and some wagons until I saw a six foot table with several shelves full of rail vehicles, engines, odd sheds, horse drawn things and more than a few bikes!

The standout layout for me in the main show was 'Sidmouth' with its exquisite buildings in the front.

Sidmouth will be one of the layouts on display at Scaleforum this year. Just one good reason, if any were needed, to come along.

There was a good selection of P4 layouts and persons to talk to at the Exeter show, including our retired President.
Well worth the trip down from Bristol on Sunday.
All the P4 related displays had a steady flow of customers.
The venue is all on the ground floor, with a restaurant attached serving good food and coffee.

I think you will find that the GWR Dia.K18 'Toplight' Passenger Brake Van was built from an early Mallard Models etched brass kit. These models first appeared in the mid 1970s and were later sold under the Blacksmith label.

This group of models was built by the late P.G.F. English - aka 'Pat' English - who lived at Penryn near Falmouth. He was an authority on West Country railways and especially on the GWR in Cornwall.

Pat was also an authority on GWR coaching stock, and I well remember attending a hilarious lecture given by him where one was left with the impression that the GWR was obsessed not only by Class, but also the number and location of lavatories in its coaches!

Great man much missed.

Is there a schedule anywhere which lists shows coming up where I might have the chance of seeing Sidmouth? Would love to see it if it comes within striking distance of the southeast.
