THE EPSOM SHOW - 27th & 28th April

Postby PDS » Tue Apr 09, 2013 3:04 pm

Now only a couple of weeks to this year's EPSOM SHOW.

As usual the show format provides an opportunity to view and admire a selection of first class layouts from 2mm to 7mm featuring various forms of traction. This year layouts cover periods from the 1900s through to 2010. Of particular interest to Society members are:

BRIXCOMBE - The Farnham MRCs first P4 exhibition layout which represents a fictitious Great Western Railway terminus at a seaside resort in the Torbay area of south Devon. The majority of our stock is in the 1900-1906 livery and passenger trains typically consist of clerestory coaches hauled by Armstrong and Dean locomotives in all their Edwardian finery with just the odd Churchward interloper

NEW MERE - Chris Longley's new layout which now represents a through station (previously a terminus) on the erstwhile Wincanton and Warminster branch of the Somerset & Dorest Joint Rly in the 1950s. There are now through trains running Templecombe - Westbury plus a shuttle of Wincanton - Mere locals plus the usual freight, milk and perishables workings. Operated using a ‘Digitrax DCS50' system.

ROLVENDEN - Robin Gay's creation of a Colonel Stephens light railway, representing the station of that name on the Kent and East Sussex Railway in the mid 1920s. He has used plans, drawings, and photos to accurately represent the site, within the constraints of the space available, as it appeared during those halcyon between the wars years.

SANDFORD & BANWELL - Pete & Jeff Day's latest layout is, loosely, based on Sandford & Banwell station on the Cheddar Valley line in North Somerset in the 1930s. The line was known as the strawberry line due to the amount of strawberries grown in the local area; it is not meant to be an accurate model of the station but a basis for running trains seen at this period, although the general layout and style of the buildings are accurate. Also included is the quarry line running south from the station.

With the demise of 'Leatherhead' and with four P4 layouts in attendance some have described the event as SCALEFORUM SOUTH-EAST!

Sounds like a good line-up, as always of course.

Scaleforum itself has not of course passed away, only moved to a larger venue at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Aylesbury where we will have more space for less money and will be able to provide you with a greater range of fine modelling and traders that we were able to accommodate at Leatherhead.

Further details will be available in due course in Scalefour News but as a taster the layouts will be as follows:
Allt-y-Graban Road, Black Gill, Dubbieside, Elcot Road, Halifax King Cross, London Road, Nottingham Goods, Simington,
Stoke by Nayland and West End, all in P4 with Obbekaer in P87. Some of these are very new to the exhibition circuit.

For those who have not get the dates sorted out yet , Scaleforum 2013 will be held on September 28th and 29th.

Terry Stop teasing us all with the lovely layouts and tempting things for Scalefourum. I am having trouble resisting comming over as there is a special on air line tickets to the UK from Australia at the moment.... I would even consider Premium Economy at the prices. Still SWMBO and the kids keep telling me I can't....

SWMBO must sometimes be ignored!
Carefully of course.
And with lots of apologies afterwards.
For the next few years.

The more mini Scaleforums - the better! Looks a good line up at Epsom, extremely tempting.

No reason why there should be not more events like RailWells which has a substantial P4 element as part of a lerger event. All it needs is for the relevant organisers to take thye necessary steps and I am sure the Committee would support such moves.
