See you in May, then :)

If you fancy a chance to get a free ticket to Railex we have setup a competition in conjunction with UK Model Shops, http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/

Here is the vintage bus time table, including the Chiltern Railway arrival and departure times, so you can plan you day if using the treain or parking in the Friarscroft car park.

Also we will be selling Railex entry tickets on the bus for the first few bus runs on the Saturday, which hopefully reduce the queue to pay at the cash desk at the stadium.

Just heading off to Railex to set up in a bit.

Goodies to look out for other than the layouts is the new MRJ (223) & Geoff Holt's Part 2 on loco building book from Wild Swan.

Ian Penbeth will have a trade stand Penbits selling his sprung diesel chassis.

Thanks, David.

Yes, PenBits will be there with our springy diesel bits. Right next to Shawplan, so no excuse not at least to have a look and think about adding a whole new dimension to your next detailing project.

Our embryonic test track will also be making an appearance, following the popularity of the short run we had on the demo stand at RailEx last year (well, someone at Scaleforum asked where it had got to), so you can experience for yourself the 'look and feel' of some sprung locos on the move.

Off to get the van in a mo - looking forward to a fine show

Regards
Ian

I'm not going to be at Railex this year, but the Society stand will be there (no 41) and will be manned by Terry Bendall and James Dickie. If you're going to be there please do come and say hello.

P4 layouts this year are SLAG's St Merryn and Alan Hall's Polsithney, with lots of other interesting things to see and buy.

All the Best
Danny

It was certainly a grand day out. And yes, I did spot Grommit.

Thanks to all involved!

As aways, RailEx was a very good show with lots of interesting layouts to see. Not so much this year in P4 and unfortunately Polsithney was unable to make it, due I gether to an accident when loading the layout. However the lack of P4 layouts was more than compensated by the high standards of modelling shown by layouts built to other scales and gauges, including some very good 2mm fine scale layouts. A highlight for me was The Mill, an American logging style layout built to a scale of 1/48 but very restrained and much more believable than some other example of this types of layout. In conversation with the builder i gather that the machines in the saw mill, the stationary steam engines and the machine in the workshop were almost all scratch built using the original patent drawings from 1880 to 1905, very much modelling in the "fine scale" tradition.

It was good to see a large number of Society members, many of whom stopped by the stand for a chat. We had the Scaleforum show plan available which generated a lot of interest and many members expressed their delight at the fact that Scaleforum this year, and for the forseaable future, will be at Aylesbury. Two traders have now requested some additional space which we hope to be able to provide, even though we have filled all the additional space that the new venue gives us. We also enrolled three new members during the weekend which was even better.

:?:

'St Merryn' was P4 when we arrived at RailEx and was still P4 when we left Terry!

Going by the number of questions/conversations going on (and sales of our book!) the interest generated by our demo stand alongside the layout was also a great support to the Society stand in promoting P4 modelling at the show.

A fantastic weekend with great layouts and excellent company.

Thank you David for a wonderfully orgainised exhibition.

I think that was a relative comment, compared to previous years rather than any suggestion that St Merryn was subjected to an "1892 moment" before or during the show ;-)

That's excellent news. The more that P4 becomes accepted as successful and achievable, particularly in mid to large sized layouts, the less the doubters and pedants have to bore us about.

Thanks for showing the flag!

Yes sorry Steve - not the best choice of words. :( What I was trying to say was that usually at RailEx the number of P4 layouts is more than the two planned. St Merryn was of course presented and operated to the usual high standard.

Our numbers were up for Railex on the previous year, interesting that at least six traders said they did better on Sunday than Saturday normally trade takings tend to be half of the Saturday the same as the ratio to visitors over the weekend, although Sunday did seem busy.

We had issues on the Saturday as the keys for the barrier between the stadium and our overspill car park could not be found so it did cause issues directing cars the long way round until the problem was solved with an angle grinder! It did mean to that we had to run our bus to the bus stop by the school as we felt that adding a bus to the busy car park would not be the best idea.

Anyway thanks for the kind comments see you next year.
