High Level Fowler 70HP 0-4-0 DM
We’ve just taken delivery of etches for the latest High Level loco kit, the first full kit for a few years. Lost waxes are in the pipeline, so about three weeks from now would be realistic for delivery.
All castings are brass, as are the body etchings, with the chassis in slightly thicker, nickel silver.
The mechanism is unorthodox, with the jackshaft coupled to the rear wheels, and also gears driving the front wheels, so they can run without any crankpins to avoid clearance problems. The gear ratio is 108:1 for super-slow running, although 80, or even 60:1 can also be supplied on request.
The kit is priced at £110, which includes the gearbox. We can supply the 1020 motor and Alan Gibson Y9 wheels are needed to finish off the loco.
You can place your order, register your interest, or make enquiries at Scalefourum, where the model will be on display, or drop us a line at enquiries@highlevelkits.co.uk

Looks great Chris. I'll have to double check, but I'm sure the MoD/WD had some of those at some stage? if so I can see a use for a couple for a future planned small layout.

Re: Lastest High Level Loco Kit
Paid for mine within minutes of the email from Chris. He's already emailed me the instructions - quite a complex one this time it seems. But having had the privilege of looking at the pilot model at Scaleforum the decision was made there and then. Followed by a trip over to Gibsons stand to buy the wheels ready.
Sadly though there's a lot in the queue ahead of it.

It certainly isn't a five minute job. Anyone who's interested can see the instructions by dropping me and e mail, or clicking the link on the website.

In response to Kelley's comment about use by the MOD, I can confirm that in the 1990s an example of this loco was quietly rotting away underground in the excavated tunnels of the RN Store Depot at Copenacre, just west of Chippenham, Wilts

This model, the 70HP, is a design that dates from 1930 (first one for the Chesterfield Tube Company) and the GWR example from Swindon works was from 1933. Similar models were dotted about in various industrial settings.

It was Hunslets at Corsham and they all went in the 1960s. There's 1.5 narrow gauge Rustons still down there. Here's the most complete one: http://viewfinder.historicengland.org.u ... &form=home
