New modelling magazine

Postby BrianRumary » Wed Sep 24, 2014 3:43 pm

I don't know if anyone else knows anything about this, but there is a new modelling magazine coming out that is published by Greystar, the publishers of the excellent "Narrow Gauge & Industrial Railway Modelling
Review".

They should be at Scaleforum in Aylesbury this weekend, so they MAY have copies of the first issue there. For more details see: www.greystarpublications.com/fsr/

Thanks Brian
I had heard talk of a new mag from Greystar and hoped that their attendance at Scaleforum this weekend would mark the launch. Looks very promising so hope to be able to buy it at Aylesbury?
All building up to a fantastic weekend :thumb
See you there

It's a Barlow/Shackleton production, so yes - VERY promising!

It'll be interesting to see what it offers that MRJ doesn't... That said, I'll be buying both.

Now that is indeed a challenge for Messer's Barlow/Shackleton Tim!

I am hoping my copy will come in the post tomorrow. Apparently there is an interesting article on making a 9 tank cordon. ;) ;)

There will be copies at S4um.

I see from their website :o they also take credit cards :o What ever will they think of next?

Seriously, it looks worth a punt but I'd be interested to hear from somebody who has seen one in the flesh, as it were.

Cheers,

David

My copy was here when I came home this evening. A very nice production with a diverse set of articles so plenty to read. I shall be subscribing.

Whether there's any stock left after 11am on Saturday morning is a different question ;-)

Is this new publication effectively "son of MORILL/RailModel Digest" :?:
That would be an ecumenical matter.

My copy turned up today. Certainly a diverse range of articles. I like it and will probably subscribe. I tend to flick through MRJ and leave it unless its got something I like, I don't get that feeling with this. But only time will tell, probably helps that'll be a quarterly mag.

I was shown a copy of this briefly (on Llanastr) but didn't get a chance to look closely or get to the stand which I now regret.
Ordsall Road (BR(E)), Forge Mill Sidings (BR(M)), Kirkcliffe Coking Plant (BR(E)), Swanage (BR (S)) and Heaby (LMS/MR). Acquired Thorneywood (GNR). Still trying to "Keep the Balance".

I ordered my copy of the new magazine on Monday, having found out about it on Sunday evening. It arrived in the post yesterday.

Not had time to look at it properly yet, but it does indeed look promising.

And not-the-worst feature is that I took out a self renewing subscription with about four mouse clicks. Not like a certain other finescale model railway publication which requires me to get permission to use the cheque book, go on-line to remind me how to write a cheque, write a letter, find an envelope, find a stamp, walk to the post box in the rain... AND it does not arrive by return of post...

Now for some 21st century finescale modelling!

Best wishes,

four mouse clicks

Yup! Far too easy - suspect MRJ may lose out if it is as good as reported here

Having bought the first issue of the new magazine, I think there is room for both. Just look at how many other model railway titles exist, ploughing the same mediocre furrow.

I hope MRJ doesn't suffer too much. It may have lost a bit of its "zing" so perhaps the competition may lift them, but I feel I owe MRJ for pointing me towards new horizons. Long may it flourish, and good luck to the new boys - the more the merrier.
