I'm looking for ideas on the latest state of the art for stopping trains rolling off the end of storage roads of a traverser. Anyone got any brighter ideas than these removable wooden blocks? They do the job completely fine, are cheap to make, not easily lost, and are easy to use, but one at each end takes at least a wagon space.
Many thanks in advance if you have any thoughts.

The stops developed for Eridge. Aluminium rod and tube from B&Q offset from the centre line to miss the AJs.

I cut a slot in the aluminium angle iron sides and put a rubber band across it. A kitchen sponge cleaner cut in half to sit snuggly but not too long is a great addition.
Ordsall Road (BR(E)), Forge Mill Sidings (BR(M)), Kirkcliffe Coking Plant (BR(E)), Swanage (BR (S)) and Heaby (LMS/MR). Acquired Thorneywood (GNR). Still trying to "Keep the Balance".

Thanks for those ideas. I agree rubber bands have all sorts of uses Michael, but I think I might go with that idea from Eridge, FCA, though I would be trying to make the hole nearer the end.

I find that if the traverser is set up level stock does not roll.

The holes are where they are so as not to interfere with the operation of the "Eridge cassette splitter".
Made of yet more aluminium angle and rod it applies separation pressure between the "rails" and avoids sudden (derailing) jolts as the cassettes separate.Damage to the mating keyways is also significanly reduced.

You may find this idea useful as it does not take up much room.

The relevant bit is at 3.14.
I experimented with this and knocked one up in about 10 minutes.
The brackets mentioned are from DIY emporia or on line.
Hope this is useful

Thanks to you all for your useful replies. I agree with you Martin, I wouldn't risk doing without an end stop. I enjoyed lingering and watching some more of the Southwark Bridge videos, Richard.

If you wish to find out more, Southwark Bridge has a web site - https://www.southwarkbridgelayout.org.uk or search "Southwark Bridge Layout".
More detail about the various parts of the layout can be found there, in particular the gasworks.
There is a Monograph book about Southwark Brdige in preparation by the South Western Circle which hopefully will be available for sale at Scaleforum 2024.
