Carriage buffers

Postby Michael Waldron » Wed Jul 20, 2022 1:08 pm

Can anyone tell me where I can get 5mm diameter buffer heads from? They need 1mm or 1.5mm shanks.

Everywhere I look (mainly Wizard Models) they’re out of stock.
It seems the person/firm that produced them has either retired or just stopped production.

I need about 130 for my Roxey Stroudley 4 & 6 wheelers. They have to have sprung buffers, so the cast ones are cut off.

I had this problem a while ago, and solved it by going direct to Gibson, who, I think, supplies Wizard.

I got fed up with waiting for Colin's production cycle to come around to buffer heads, so I made my own:

These are actually 17" heads for some GER coaches, but a whole range of others is possible. They need some cleaning up.

Regarding the comment about Gibson supplying carriage buffers - there’s nothing in the catalogue.

Looks like a case for setting up a production run on the lathe! If only the power wasn’t so pricey nowadays!

SPRUNG COACH BUFFERS
Our small range of sprung coach buffers have the same specification as the wagon buffers above. The buffer bodies are turned
from brass for strength whilst the heads are turned in steel for realism. They are available in packs containing sufficient parts for
four buffers. The pack of 20 heads and springs should be used in conjunction with the bushes listed above (codes 4951 and
4952).
