The coach illustrated was recently purchased by a member of the Sarum Finescale Group.
It's a 7 compartment composite which measures 196mm over bufferbeams (49' equivalent) and sits on 26mm wb bogies (6' 6" equivalent).
It is numbered 1245 on one side and 1445 on the other which appear to be fictitious
There appears to be no evidence of a coach carrying no. 1245 while no. 1445 was carried by a diag. C74 open third (excursion stock) which was 60' (240 mm. equivalent) in length.
The model appears to be kit built but there is no indication of its origin.
We have scratched our heads and can make no positive identification. Could it be of Welsh railway origin?
We would appreciate any help colleagues could give.

Re: mystery coach model
Hi
Although it is difficult to be absolutely certain, the body has many similarities to L&YR coaches I have build from kits, in particular the beading strips between the windows. What wheelbase are the bogies - 6foot by any chance, or 8foot.
Hope that is of some help
Gavin

Thank you for the quick reply Gavin.
The bogie wheelbase is 6' 6" if that helps.

It has a Cambrian look about it, but I cannot find anything in my books to substantiate this.

Hi Joe
6' 6" definitely sounds like the L&YR. I suspect it is one of these ... at least it would be if I could get the image to insert!

I will have a further go later today and work out why the image is not uploading, but it looks like an LYR 1st/3rd composite. The Diagram Number escapes me for the moment but visually it fits.

I’ve asked a GW friend and it might be Taff Vale. He’s delving into his books and is getting back to me later.

Looks very similar to the Microrail LYR D30, 32 or 34 carriages, particularly with those lamp covers on the roof. Possibly the D32 composite.

Re: mystery coach model
The D32 Microrail kit is the source of my L&YR carriage so that makes sense.

I’ve had a reply. I’m told that the bogies look a bit Taff Vale maybe. Seems though that L&Y is now the answer.

If anyone is interested, I do have an unstarted Microrail LYR D30 brake third for sale, from my late father's collection, just in case anyone wants a complementary carriage to add to anything they already have.

I see you have now put it in as an attachment, the img tags need the full url to find the website.
