Gresley Quad Art and Quint Arts

I am about to install the truss rodding on a set of quad and a set of quint arts - so for those of the GE persuasion I have two questions please.

In the first question - should the quad and quint arts look like this - I have pictures of this on LNER suburban stock, or should they look like the split pins supplied with the Kirk kits?
The second question - the second picture seems to show a mid-line truss support - is this correct or just the way I am looking at the picture?
