SE&CR coach livery

Postby Andy W » Tue Aug 28, 2012 1:29 pm

I'm preparing to line a couple of SE&CR coaches as built around 1907. I always believed that the side mouldings had gold/yellow edges but were themselves the same colour as the bodies. However, I've now read that the beading was black lined yellow/gold. Does anyone know if the beading was SE&CR maroon or black?

Thanks.

Gould, in 'Bogie Carriages of the SECR', refers to gold or yellow on the moulding edges (gold on 1st, yellow on 3rd) at this time, but says nothing about any black in between.

I think the complexity of the lining varied with the class of carriage.

Can I suggest you make contact with TheSouthEastern@yahoogroups.com or look on the SECSoc website http://www.southeasternandchathamrailway.org.uk

The SECSoc is in the course of preparing a livery guide, and I really recommend joining as i am sure much on this subject has been published in its journal Invicta over the years.

I also suggest contacting/joining the HMRS, whose SECR steward is John Arkell, who is very knowledgeable in this area.

Thanks chaps, I'll follow up the contacts. Like Rod I'm pretty sure there was no black on the mouldings.
