GWR V4 Mink van pictures?

Postby Flymo748 » Sun Dec 23, 2018 2:30 pm

I have a couple of Coopercraft GWR vans that I built some time ago - think decades rather than weeks. Therefore they could really do with a stripping, renovation and repaint before going back into the stock box.

As you may know from my other modelling, my preferred period is around 1910. This is where the problem starts...

Despite having a _reasonable_ selection of GWR and general period reference books - the GWR Wagons "bible", Wagon Loads in Service, etc. I have been singularly unsuccessful in finding any pre-First World War pictures of the relevant vans.

They are the "tall" and "low" versions of the GWR V4 Mink. The GWR built them in two different heights as an experiment in which was most usable. They were built from 1904, in a batch of 200 vans, so there _should_ be some pre-WW1 pictures, or even works photographs. But I can't find any. Only late-GWR or BR period ones.

Can anyone point me at the source of some?

Cheers

Flymo,

See my reply to GWRJ index. You need the 16ft wooden part 2 article.

Which Morgan design chassis go with these?
More importantly which ones go with the Cooper Craft open GWR wagons? The floor is too high on the plastic kits.

The downloadable https://www.scalefour.org/downloads/gwunderframes2014s.pdf pdf of the Brian Morgan instructions gives:

CooperCraft U/F Etch Solebar
1007 V4 Mink A 8’ 0” 9’ DC1 16’ o/a WN4400 WN4600
1008 V4 Mink A 7’ 6” 9’ DC1 16’0 o/a WN4400 WN4600
Clasp braked Mink A WN4435 WN4635

1008 can be used with double bonnet ends to make up V18 Morton WN4450 WN4650

Apologies for dodgy formatting - I had to use a variant of ASCII Art to make the copied text readable.

Cheers
