CSP kit of GWR travelling oil gas tanks wagon DD4

Postby John Lewis » Sat Jul 16, 2016 2:48 pm

I have a kit by CSP of a GWR travelling oil gas tanks wagon Diag DD4 - one with 9 tanks.

The tanks have dished (inwards) ends. In the kit the sides of the tanks are a length of brass tube, while the ends are cast from white metal and are a plug fit into the brass tubes. One end of each tank has to be drilled centrally for a pipe.

Is there a way of accurately marking the centre of the tank ends, please? The wagons had a row of five tanks with four more arranged above them, so the gas pipes should all be aligned similarly.

There was an article in "Finescale Review" about this kit. Apparently the version of this kit featured had a spike of some kind to represent the pipes coming out of the tanks, but in my kit the ends are smooth

Thank you

Using things you probably have:

Using a special tool:

Easier with something that is flat than dished.
Perhaps make a flat circle to fit inside the tube and use this as a drilling jig.

Andrew

Thank you very much - I just could remember this - I new there was a simple way to do it!

I am just glad I brought a 1" setsquare from Eileens!
