Re-wheeling the Heljan Class 128 single unit parcels railcar

Postby Captain Kernow » Sun Jun 30, 2013 12:40 pm

Just done a basic wheel swap on one of the above, using Branchlines wheels and axles, and the original Heljan gears. The conversion ended up being more complex than it needed to be, because I filed some plastic off the insides of the bogie side frames (only circa 0.75mm additional space was actually needed), whereas I could have washered them out, given the way the Heljan side frames come off.

Anyway, it runs fine on Callow Lane - more info on my RMWeb blog here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... nit-to-p4/

That thing's a weighty beast. You better be careful it doesn't start squashing your track! Having weighed a number of diesels I can't recall any being that heavy, certainly none I've converted.
It looks very nice. One of Heljan's better efforts. I was very tempted by one but I don't think I can really justify it. I've got plenty of other things to be getting on with anyway! I shall look forward to seeing it weathered.
