Thanks for posting the link - which shows yet more detail variations in these 0-4-0 YEC shunters. For those wanting a little more information about the history of Yorkshire Engine Company there is an article by A.J. Booth in the March 1986 issue of Rail Enthusiast.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi,

The one remaining big job on the body is to add the bolthead detail. This is prominent on the buffer beams, in the footwells and also in a couple of locations on the cab:-

I also need to deal with any sins committed during the body's construction phase and there is nothing like Tamiya Fine Surface Primer for revealing them. Since the bolthead detail will be fragile the corrections are going to be dealt with (Milliput or superglue) before adding it.

Here are a couple of images of the primed body cruelly showing a number of modelling crimes (note: the cab roof is still loose):-

I am going to use some of my remaining Archer rivet detail sheets to represent the boltheads and have chosen three different sizes to reflect the variety on the prototype. The surfaces where the the bolthead resin transfers are to be applied are first coated with a solution of Klear plus a few drops of IPA. (about 6 drops in 15ml of IPA) - this creates a thin slightly glossy surface without much of an 'edge' which should take the tiny individual boltheads. Sometimes a second coat is needed to make the surface sufficiently glossy.

It took three long sessions to apply over 200 of these boltheads and it is a challenge for your eyes - I have recently purchased a Serious Readers lamp and this seems to minimise the eye strain.

Here are the results:-

When dry the transfers are over-coated with the Klear solution to seal them in.

The next job on the body is to paint the interior of the cab and then source a driver. I am not brave enough to propose another modelling session this close to Christmas so it will have to wait ..... a few days :)

All the best for the festive season, cheers,

Richard

Hi,

Before the over-indulgence starts I thought I would share this little bit of christmas cheer.

Here is a grainy video of Mostyn Docks shunter No.2 at work in the exchange sidings and into the docks in 2002 .....
