Does anyone know the exact wheel size for the E train and are any wheel manufactureres considering making it? I know of three complete 4 coach sets required plus another 8 coaches.

With 20 vehicles available surely someone can put a caliper to the wheels.

I have. I think it works out at 2'4" but where do you measure? On the edge or close to the flange? On 00 wheels that adds an inch.

The actual figure is in the thread, but with 140 pages, 139 of which contain wibble.....

Wheel diameter is measured at the midpoint of the tread, widthwise, or you could measure the edge and close to the flange and take the average.

Well, I've looked through all the pages on the RM wibble thread and can't find the wheel size. There was a bit of useful info but most of it was inane chatter. I did note that some one has converted it though. Who was that?

The Rapido APT-E does not have the same wheel size on all wheel sets.

Powered bogies have 11.5mm diameter wheels.
Un powered bogies are 9.5mm diameter.
All axles are 1.5mm diameter, and remember they are all split axles.

I have converted mine to EM, (simply pulling the wheels out using a gear puller), therefore cannot help with suggestions for wheel sources.

I'm not aware of anyone making a set for P4 as yet. I have altered mine but still need to turn the flanges down a bit. I dont intend to narrow the tread at this point, I'll see how it runs on the layout first.

The APT book now has the details - 750mm diameter, (2' 5 1/2"). Hmm, no one makes a wheel that size in P4. Can markits be reprofiled? 9mm is the closest but still too small. Can a 10.5 be reprofiled?

10.5 is less than 0.7mm out. Branchlines do these and they do spilt axles for the hornby 50. Perhaps they could do a custom set?

Anyone interested might like to look on the Ultrascale website at my APT-E. The new wheels are a direct replacement for the Rapido ones but, as described by David Rogers at Ultrascale, there were issues with some of the axles having different diameters creating increased problems for David.
