Steam Loco couplings

Postby John Bateson » Wed Sep 07, 2022 3:27 pm

What is the current standard for locomotive couplings, the ones with the adjustment lever?

The only ones I can find are
    Markits MCoup/S - 1 pair
    Accurascale - 4 pairs

Exactoscale 4CP S01A - 1 pair - these are probably no longer available now.

Rumney Models screw couplings.

These give different length links to give you the choice of overall lengths between prototypical and functional and many others in between.
Just a satisfied customer.

I think the Masokits ones are as good as any John but I suppose you do have to assemble them your self. Although I haven't laid hands on the new version introduced last year yet. 8 sets on one etch for less than £5
The Exactoscale ones were an interesting item but a b****r to assemble and none too robust

Hi John
I actually have 16 sets of the Exactoscale 4CP501A they are £11 per set which is why there will not be any more

Masokits screw couplings are really easy to solder up - particularly if you batch build them; and there is a choice of long or short bottom link. The drawback is that the tommy bar stays at right angles to the loops, which isn't really just like the real thing.

Many thanks for all the suggestions. I have ordered 3 sets from Masokits because I have quite a few to do and I also like batch building - with some suitable music in the background of course.

My preferred choice these days is for the W&T screw couplings, with the little etched tommy bar cut off and replaced with a Duchesse pin with a dob of epoxy on the end. The links are folded up and fitted using Ambis or Brassmasters hooks. The surplus (very big) supplied hooks are used on other vehicles under gangway connectors where the size is useful but unobtrusive.

If you've got any left for Scaleforum, I might have a few sets from you! I've been snapping them up wherever I can find them.
That would be an ecumenical matter.
