Hi all
Toying with the idea of another small tender loco for Brettell Road and I quite like these
http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms ... sh2253.htm
London road models do a kit but that's for the more hansome looking cab. Naturally I'm drawn to the recabbed version on the grounds that it doesn't really look right. I know OO works did a handbuilt RTR one and I've asked about their etches but no joy.
One option would be to get the LRM kit and draw up a new cab but can it really be that simple?
Any other options?
Jim

Hi Jim,
I'd ask John Redrup or Jol Wilkinson about the LRM kit. IIRC it's origin is from the George Norton range and it is possible that the kit had the later LMS cab included in the etches. Alternatively the Alan Gibson range has/had a 2F with both type of cab. I believe the model I acquired and repainted as 58165 is based on the Gibson kit.

Thanks Morgan
That example seems to have a much lower cab than the one in the picture I linked too. The model looks too nicely proportioned in this area

Jim,
contact John through the LRM website contact link. I help out at shows and have done design work for LRM, but haven't much knowledge of the MR 2F kit.

Hi Jim,
I hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it. The distance between the upper cab windows and roof line is much bigger on the photo you found. It made me have a look around for more photos and I found this one.

It looks like two 2Fs in a row Both have the LMS style cab but one is a high cab the other a low cab. Beginning to wonder if I might have dropped a "you know what" when I picked the number for this loco. I never did find a photo of it and it begs the question of why some with low roof and some with high? The only definite reason I'm aware of is 2Fs that were allocated to work on the Leicester and Swannington Branch. Glenfield tunnel on this line was of very limited clearance.
cheers....Morgan

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Morgan but...

58165 had the high roof. The next question is did it always have this or not?
I did have a brief chat with someone on the LRM stand Jol. I guess it was John. He said he doesn't do the cab type I want.
If it turns out waiting for alan Gibson to re-run his kit gives the lower cab that Morgan has anyway then LRM might still be the way to go with a bit of my own etches. (Cab and firebox).

Thanks Jim, that is just typical <sigh>
Looks like a change of identity for this loco is now on the cards. Wish I'd seen that photo earlier.
