I have just completed my first proper P4 conversion
5816 for the Llanfyllin Branch
Unfortunately the Cabside Number plate is a bit wonky.
i need to tuck the black wire away above the rear wheel, do a bit of light weathering, esp the wheels and fit crew and lamps
Edited to add: This is a Dapol 14xx fitted with Ultrascale conversion wheels, a fair bit of carving and sanding and adding bits and bobs, including the Mainly Trains pack, lamp irons, fire iron brackets and some Slaters Collett Buffers
Fitted with Dinghams.
Now I have a loco and some wagons to run, I need to get back to the scenery

Excellent. I've used this wheelset and you really feel you are getting somewhere quite fast. Then you have to make a chassis for the next loco...

The photo looks like the loco is sloping down at the back but its level on the track, must be the camera angle

I see the reference photo is of Worcester. I've spent many an hour looking down on this scene. Happy days.
Make Worcestershire great again.

Will have to look at that, it runs really well, though the Conversion Kit provides crank pins to use the original coupling rods and they are a bit of a sloppy fit, but as I say it worked, unlike my 45xx which took a fair bit of fettling to get quartered and running. Soon to appear on a well known auction site I think.

If it runs well, there is unlikely to be anything wrong with the quartering!

if it's the Bachman 45XX, you could try recentring the rods, I did it on mine, runs a treat now. The rods do not match the wheelbase, so no matter how accurate your quartering, it will never run well.

That would explain the problems, I ended up buying some universal rods and making replacements with new crank pins. Nightmare to quarter though still not sure its right which is why it may be getting shipped out

Although not a 45XX, I'm showing how I checked the rods on my workbench thread.

Well done! A running P4 loco is a darned splendid start in my mind.
They are neat looking little loco's, even if GWR
Now where's that Beattie Well Tank got to ???

Could you provide a link, Tim? I looked out for this item on your workbench thread, but failed to find it.
Re: 5816 A new P4 loco
The quartering "problem" is probably due to one unpowered (floating) driving wheel moving slightly out of quarter when the loco stops? I can't remember if the old Airfix 14/58xx locos had gears on all driving wheels? I suspect not. This is a common feature on most small model locos; 0-6-0's for example, with one powered axle and two free moving axles showing a degree of coupling rod misalignment when the juice is switched off, only to be corrected under renewed power.
