Version 3 of the etch with the modified lower boiler barrel.

Yes it fits.

Unfortunately I forgot to add the cylinders before soldering the lower boiler barrell in place.

Not the best of pictures, both taken with my phone.
One minor mod to think about which will not require a new etch.
Finalise the written instructions, insert pictures and test.

At last I am pleased to announce that the Hornby EM / P4 chassis kit has been assembled using the version 3 etch and the twelve pages of instructions with photographs.
A few tweaks to the instructions were requested otherwise I was advised all was well.

The etch along with associated rod, tube, 8ba screw and nut will cost £22.00.
Post and packing will cost a further £3.50 for signed for delivery.
The instructions if I can e-mail them to you will be Free Of Charge.
If you wish a hard copy colour printing in Bristol costs between £0.75 to £1.00 an A4 sheet!

What I would like is confirmation of definite orders along with personal contact details to be e-mailed to me at ga007d9065@blueyonder.co.uk please.
I am looking to place an order with the etchers at the end of the month, unless I get an initial tsunami of orders.
There is no need to send me any money until I have received the etches, then I will notify you requesting payment before despatch.

I will send out instructions to those who wish to see them before placing an order. Just send me a request at the above e-mail address.

I am interested in an etch.

What else is required to complete please so that I can determine the total cost? Wheels, gear set?

Many thanks.

Firstly my thanks to every one who bought a chassis kit from the first batch.
This far exceeded my expectations.

Now as the revised heading indicates I am giving notice that I will not be accepting any more orders for the 0-4-0 Peckett chassis kit after the 30th September 2019, as I wish to get back to other projects including some actual modelling.

Orders can be placed by e-mail to ga007d9065@blueyonder.co.uk , or by writing to me at 154 Newbridge Road, St Annes, Bristol. BS4 4DS.

Again thank you for your support.

You need to alter the heading on your first post!

Done,

Order duly sent.
That would be an ecumenical matter.

I have one of these lovely kits and am steadily building it. The instructions say that the crossheads are fiddly and they are not wrong but I have got there and so far so good. I have bought the High Level Roadrunner plus gearbox and am trying out one of Chris Gibbons new motors which should be interesting.
Anyway enough rambling. I am thinking ahead to how to arrange the collectors. None of the photos I have seen show them nor is it covered in the recent review article in MRJ. I know it is not part of the kit as such but I will have to face it sometime. The photo of the Peckett on Rolvenden - presumably Gordon's own - shows it working so pick ups must have been sorted. I assume we are talking here of a strip of PCB with some curly wire but it would be helpful to know from those who have got to this point how the pcb is fixed and how the wires are arranged to work between the brake gear etc. A close up photo would be great.
Many thanks in advance and thanks to Gordon for taking this on.

I will take a picture tomorrow of my pick ups and post on here.

I do have a waiting list for another run of chassis kits which will have to wait until the current emergency is over.

Hi,

This is how I did it. The trick is avoiding the pull rods so used thin pcb glued to to the central spacer and then thin brass wire to the tyres avoiding the rods which is easier said than done!

As promised a couple of pictures of the pickups on my Peckett chassis.

P1070232a.JPG

P1070236a.JPG

The pickups are made from phosphor bronze wire, each with two bends.
On the back wheels the pickups rub on the tread, while on the front the pickups run on the back of the tyres.
The white is a couple of small pieces of domestic masking tape just to prevent any possibility of shorting to the chassis.
The pick ups are soldered to two pieces of copper clad sleeper with the copper adjacent to the frames filed away to prevent any shorting.

Not very neat but it works.

Thank you both. Very good and clear photos so I am re-assured. Just one question. Can you both recall the diameter of the brass/phosphor bronze wire?
My experience is that this can be quite critical between being soft enough to be pliable but not wafting about or too hard and running with the brakes on.
Again my thanks for these.

So far no shorting from the brake pulls.
Cheers

Having just stumbled across this thread, and finally facing up the the fact that a x-country mainline will not fit into the current accommodation, could I add my name to the waiting list if there's to be another batch of this chassis?
