My personal choice will be a Hlgh Level gear box.

I will give some more details after I have completed a test build.

As to price I am not sure yet.

High Level would be my first choice, I was just wondering which one. No rush at all, this is worth waiting for.

Cheers,

David

Herewith pictures of the test etch for the Hornby Peckett full chassis kit.

Test a.jpg

Side on view. The frames have been assembled with the half etch markings for the front axles on the inside.
They are just visible in the second picture.

There are a small number of errors that need correcting which will require the art work amending and another tool.

I will have this test etch with me at Rail Wells if any one is interested.

The late Roger Slade recommended the High Level Road Runner + for the CSP kit.

I would like to register an interest in two of these (perhaps three if my second Hornby Huntley & Palmers arrives).

I also saw this at Wells and it is very impressive.

What kind of compensation or suspension is planned for it, Gordon? Presumably it is configured with the intention of the High Level gearbox driving the rear axle?

Hi Tim,
The chassis is designed with a rocking front axle and to be fitted with a High Level Road Runner+ gearbox.
I am hoping to have a running chassis at Scaleforum.

Excellent.

Will there be any for sale by then, please?

You will be most welcome to give the new chassis a good running-in on the DRAG test track at Scaleforum.

I very much doubt it as I don't think I will have finished the instructions.

A quick update on the Peckett chassis.
A few corrections were needed on the test etch.
I have received three revised test etches, the first of which I am building hopefully into a running chassis for Scaleforum.

The gear box is a High Level Road Runner +

Wheels will be Gibson Black Hawthorn 3ft drivers.

Hi Gordon,

Looking forward to seeing this at S4um on Saturday and having a chat with you. Our group had a Peckett on the table on Friday, and one of the issues we picked up on was that the Gibson drivers are 10 spoke, whereas the Peckett drivers had 11 spokes. It seems from one of your previous posts that your etched overlays are 11 spoke, so we wondered what plans if any you had for amending the Gibson wheels?

Hi Geraint,

Two potential customers asked if I would consider adding the etches overlays, so I have.

As to how the wheels get converted, I haven't got a clue, so am leaving that to those who worry about being one spoke out.

From my point of view, you cannot tell that there is one spoke missing when moving slowly.

Looking forward to a chat.

Gordon

Sorry folks, I was hoping to have a running chassis for Scaleforum, but that will not be the case due to losing a day and half this week to other causes.

I will still bring the chassis with me for those who wish to examine it.

Having had a busy Scaleforum talking to various prople I had a few days off to spend the weekend with Millie my Land Rover and friends in the Devils Bridge area green laning.

Having got back safely I settled down to working on the Peckett chassis only to find in my rush to build it for S4um I managed to build it out of square!! Grrrrr.

I spent a few days taking the chassis to pieces, cleaning up and reassembling.

I am now happy to report the chassis, gearbox and motor have been reassembled and are now running nicely on my rolling road.

Well, I've bitten the bullet and bought one, the new Green Peckett livery one which is very close to my 'corporate' steam loco green. The finish is superb, the lining on the buffer beams is exquisite. It's a lovely runner straight out of the box but I've already got a potential buyer for the chassis (a 7mm NG modeller) so I'll be having a word with you in due course no doubt!

A few more pictures.

I have fitted the connecting rod, cylinders and crosshead. I have been spending time finding the odd thou clearance behind the cross head.
All appears to be ok.

Pictures of the brake hangars and rigging.

The first two pictures show the brake hangars and rodding.

The wire pull rods do not have any set position, which means you can take into account what type of pickups you use when fitting them.
Cranks on the brake cross shaft are provided for the hand brake, behind the driver and the steam brake vertically mounted under the fireman's side.
I have not bothered with a casting for the cylinder as it is out of sight.

Just to prove that the brake hangars and pull rods are designed to be removable.
Sorry the picture quality not so good as used my mobile phone

At last the completed chassis. The motor is a Mashima 1220, which requires 3mm lopping off the shaft pointing to the front of the loco.

Sorry no idea as to price yet, David.
There are a couple of tight spots to look at on the chassis.
Next job is to type my pencil notes, organise into a sensible order and add pictures.

And a shot of the underside showing how tight the clearances are:

I am planning to come to Warley show tomorrow and will, if they will host Dodo leave it on the Scalefour Society stand.

Just the instructions and costings to do!
