Bachmann Jinty conversion (AG Wheels)

Postby grovenor-2685 » Wed May 28, 2014 10:04 am

[Was a response to a wanted-ad for some ultrascale wheels (ed)]

Sorry, no, but I had no problem converting mine with AG wheels, and they are usually on very quick delivery.

Thanks for that Keith, I had forgotten that AG does a conversion set, and looking on their website (which I haven't for some time) I was amazed at just how many conversion sets are now available! maybe I don't build enough locos!

BTW, on the AG data sheets, they mention use of the GW wheel press and quartering jig for setting up the axles, I have one of these and find it one of my best investments, but I thought it would only work with 1/8" axles, and the Bachmann replacements are 3mm?

I have queried this with AG but no response as yet.

Many thanks for you response,

Steve

Steve, it works perfectly well with either (just dunnit with Pannier AG Bachmann wheels). HTH

The GW wheel press, I think can be adapted by reducing the end of the pins to 3mm, just enough to hold the wheel, but I have done my conversions just using the drill stand, for some reason I don't seem to get on well with the GW press, or the Hamblings one a bit deeper in my tool chest.
