Bob Payne drill

Has anyone some experience with this gizmo? I tried it today for the first time. Not wanting to wreck anything too valuable, I tried it on a Dapol wagon. I used shouldered Exactoscale bearings, and with e shoulder up hard against the w-iron, the axles become a tad long. I landed up buzzing off a mm on the lathe.

Any tips? My thought was to go shoulder less, as needing to rework the axles sort of defeats the object of rapid conversion of R-T-R stock.

Regards
Neil
