Correct-ish colour in BR days

Postby John Bateson » Sun Nov 15, 2009 12:44 pm

I have 9 carriages to paint - a quad-art and a quint-art of the GER.
I want to paint them in BR days (they had all been scrapped by about 1960) so rather than use my spray gun, I thought about a Halfords car spray.
I have done this in the past but the paint is no longer available.
Can anybody recommend a 'modern' Halfords equivalent to BR Suburban carriage paint please.

Do you mean a crimson/carmine substitute John?

Not used it myself, but I've heard that BMW Zinnabar Red is quite good.

And there's always Precision's BR Crimson (Faded) - P303, which you can get in a spraycan http://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/enamel.asp?F_Railway=5

Personally I would avoid any low production run spray cans, I've had too many go wrong.

I'm quite happy sticking with the high sales volume Halfords etc cans (usual disclaimer).

To true Tim I have two failed Precision spray can waiting to be returned when next I see them - the black button will not depress. Nothing wrong with by Halfords primmer.

John,

I have found that Halford's Vauxhall Carmine is a good match to faded crimson.
