Early BR Cabside numerals on black

Postby essdee » Tue Dec 09, 2014 12:20 pm

Help - please!

For a Scottish Region ex-Caley 812 Class 0-6-0 in 1956, what size are the cabside numerals - and what colour, please?

Measuring from numerous photos, the numerals scale out resolutely at around 9.5inches, tending higher. Am I safe in asuming 10" numerals would be the norm?

I have been assuming the colour would be cream, rather than off-white (the difference??) but just read a confusing comment on RMWeb suggesting that cream was only used on green, and off-white on black locos. Weathering would no doubt change the latter towards cream anyway, but I would like to start with the correct colour, and know which sheet to order!

Thanks,
