Does anyone know of a source of spares for the Unimat SL? I am looking for new motor bushes and drive belts.

The do supply spare brushes for my pantograph milling machine which has a similar motor to the Unimat and the defiantly sell Bushes as i have bought some a few year ago. anyway worth try anyway

I was under the impression that compatible drive belts can still be obtained from other sources.

In the past, I have purchased spare [not EMCO] belts for my Unimat 3, but unfortunately I can't remember who supplied them.

(Sorry about that. Not very helpful, but at least it indicates that spare belts should be obtainable, but I don't know whether other [alternative] spares are also available, other than second-hand.)

My only observation is that the SL belts come in two sizes, whereas actually there are three if the machine has a slow speed attachment, which mine does. In practice the two sizes work - the large ones go on forever despite lots of cracks, but the small ones break. Good news is that I glue them back together again with Hafixs superglue and they last a few more jobs. I can go on like this for quite a while before having to admit defeat and replace the belt!

Can’t help with motor bushes I’m afraid. You do mean bushes and not brushes? I was having a conversation with a friend today and he mentioned knowing someone who had had a motor for a Unimat 3 rebuilt recently. I could find out more if you wish.

I did mean brushes not brushes. Thanks for pointing that out. I do have a "three belt" machine, although, for the most part, I only use two but there's always the odd occasion when the third belt comes into play Thanks also to Jeremy and Martin. I'll do some checking tomorrow but am always open to further suggestions.

Many moons ago I was after belts for a Unimat 3 and was informed that they were just standard sized “O” rings and hence easy to source. I suspect the same may be true for the SL.

I use Polyurathane belting which is simply joined together with a hot blade.

Been in use on my Cowells for several years now. Easy to shorten as well if needed. All you need is a sharp knife to cut it to length and a flat 'butter knife' style flat surface heated in a gas ring or similar to melt the ends before pressing them together.
