Postby ianpenberth » Wed May 03, 2023 11:03 am

Good afternoon all,

We'll be meeting at The Pendon Museum, High Street, Long Wittenham, OX14 4QD, on Tuesday 9th May from 19:30 onwards.

We ask for a contribution of £4 per head to cover the cost of the room, including teas and coffees. Other light refreshments are available to purchase.

All welcome at the meeting, whether local or just passing through. Feel free to bring along something you have built or are working on.

Regards,
Ian

A write up of our May meeting with apologies for lateness...

A good showing tonight in spite of the absence of some of the 'regulars', with eight of us around the table and a lively discussion.

Martin was demonstrating the latest iteration of his 'Burford' coupling, with bespoke etches from Justin Newitt.

Peter showed his model of a Southern PMV, a P4 conversion based on the Hornby Churchill vehicle which, as it comes from the box, is very good but he has made some small but significant improvements, and added some extra weight up to 160g. We discussed ways of accurately fitting brass bearings to RTR bogies, with the general consensus that pin points in plastic are bound to cause grief sooner or later.

Andy brought along a 1361 chassis built from the CSP chassis kit, offering some challenges as it's designed for OO, making the mods to the cylinder assembly particularly tricky. This discussion started at axleboxes and ended up with types of varnish – Ronseal gloss, or satin (the latter a good match to RTR finishes).

David A showed us the latest progress on 'Bamburgh', as seen on this forum in his North Sunderland Stock thread.
but equally exquisite at first hand. The injector is a tiny work of art – but does he have do one for the other side?

Steve bought a model of Fairford engine shed, based on a 6mm MDF shell with routed window surrounds and cosmetic cladding from Evergreen sheet, bonded directly with solvent (which has stood the test of time).

Robin showed plans for his model of Hawkhurst and wondered about options for working the point whose toe is on a bridge over a roadway.

Thanks to Peter for overseeing the meeting on Pendon's behalf.
