LSWR and SR loading gauges

Postby nberrington » Thu Jan 15, 2009 2:47 pm

Greetings all

I posted this on the SEmG website, but no one has reponded. Perhaps some LSWR fans can help:

I recently scratchbuit an LSWR railpost loading gauge, as illustrated in Weddell: "LSWR Carriages Goods, Departmental Stock and Miscellany "

I have subsequently found a photograph of the Corfe Casle loading gauge taken in the 60's. Although the design of the railposts is identical to the LSWR one, the crossbeam support is quite different.

Did the Southern change the design of the these structures at some point, or did the LSWR have a few variations to begin with? (As far as I can tell from Weddell, they were either wooden or rail, of a standard design)

I know the Southern was quite thrifty at times, and perhaps an older structure was altered?

If there's no answer here, have you tried the South Western Circle?
