Grass without a static gadget

Postby David B » Sat Dec 03, 2011 11:30 am

Has anyone seen this? It is an interesting and cheaper way of applying grass than using one of the expensive static machines and uses a different source of material. It comes from across the pond.

Hi David

Yes indeed, the roll a sausage, split it in half and dab method works for the normal static grass without the wig too.

Perhaps one of these http://finescalemodelworld.co.uk/ at the cheaper end of the market might be worth trying out. It comes highly recommended by Chris Nevard (one of the leading 'new technique' scenic exponents). I shall be getting one to complement my Noch 'Grasmaster' (which gives the best quality finish IMHO). Chris says that the great advantage of this tea-strainer type is that the fibres can be mixed more conveniently for use in small areas.

Static grass applicators generally have so improved the quality of scenics now. There are still some layouts seen at exhibitions with superb track, stock etc but it all seems to end beyond the railway fence!

A couple of snaps of what's possible nowadays:
