A bit harsh, Danny.

I didn't just mean you Noel and I did put a laughing out loud emoji at the end and I hope that no one thinks that I have been upset by any of the comments as I haven't been.

There is actually very little music in the videos, but there is a lot of very interesting narration from layout owners/builders, so if anyone does turn the sound off they will be missing more than just the (if there is any) music.

I'm looking forward to the virtual Scaleforum. This has clearly involved a good deal of effort on the part of quite a few people. The printed flyer with Scalefour News showed that there will be some interesting layouts on show, and some useful demos.

As for musical accompaniment to the videos, my reaction to the trailer was simply one of amusement. It's certainly not a problem so far as I'm concerned. If I find the musical accompaniment to any of the videos distracting I'll simply turn the sound down. Simples!

Many thanks for your, and colleagues, efforts in impending Virtual Scaleforum, Danny - many hours already gone into this, I can see clearly. Very much anticipating a fine presentation.

I have forwarded the show's link to colleagues in S&DRT Northern Area Group, not all of whom are P4 modellers, and they are also looking forward!

Cheers,
Steve

The 'live' Scaleforum at Aylesbury was plagued by dreadful acoustics and unintelligible tannoy announcements (glad to get rid of those).

Any music will be better than the real thing, and as Danny points out, you can always turn the volume down (can't do that in live events ...).

I am surprised no-one has suggested Ronald Binge's Coronation Scot. :)

(I tried to attach a clip but it seems the system will not have it.)

SCALEFORUM UPDATE

Unfortunately, for personal reasons Jim Smith-Wright will no longer be able to take part and his planned video demonstrating White Metal Soldering will not be available, but we do have a couple of late additions.

Tony Hagon is sending us a video demonstrating Modelling Buildings using a Craft Cutter and Alan Austin has sent a video showing a brief backstory to AMBIS Engineering and the use of some of these components in building the owner's own layout called "LowDale & Calver".

All the Best

With apologies to Danny for whose work we're all very grateful.

Coronation Scot actually composed by Vivian Ellis https://www.naxos.com/mainsite/blurbs_r ... ge=English

Coronation Scot was composed by Vivian Ellis on a journey from Paddington to Taunton in 1938 and, in Ellis's own words, "did nothing" until it was chosen as the signature-tune for BBC Television's 'Paul Temple' thriller series. With its evocation of the train setting off, then settling down to the 'rhythm of the rails', over which comes a soaring melody that everyone can hum, Coronation Scot became a great favourite in its own right.

Indeed. Accompanying music is incidental, nothing intrinsically wrong with the Bach on Danny's preview or the Villa Lobos on the original Heckmondwike film. Light-heartedly I would go for Coltrane's 'Blue Train' or even 'Train' by Goldfrapp 8-) .

But enough of this frivolity, let's focus on the modelling next Saturday.

Apologies, Julian. You are quite right and my CD sleeve notes wrong! (Do CDs actually have sleeves with notes on?)

I know many of us are looking forward to the first Virtual Scaleforum and I thank you and everyone involved in advance for all your efforts. Will there be any live events during the day which will not be available afterwards? And if so, what is the timetable for these? I ask as I will be entertaining someone who does not have a computer and we are wanting to plan our day.

Hi Dave, thanks for you question.

The only parts which are live and will happen only when they happen are the opportunities to interact or question layout owners, demonstrators, lecturers and Society officers etc.

What this means is that person A or person B has agreed to be sitting at their computer at a specific time or times during the day to answer questions or chat via the forum, or in a couple of cases by e-mail and I will be releasing this data on Friday.

Everyone has also agreed to pick up questions at other times too, but not timetabled, so in these cases there would be a delay in the person responding.

There will be a special area of the forum created for the show. Hopefully lots of people will post and chat and we would encourage that, so that there is as strong a social element as possible given that none of us can actually meet.

Jeremy will be broadcasting live via YouTube during the day as well, and there may be a few Zoom meetings that people can join by request.

All of the layout, demonstration and lectures content will be released for viewing at 10:30 on Saturday and will remain available to view indefinitely. So you'll still be able to see everything on Sunday, next week, next month etc

All the Best
Danny

Hi Danny,

I'm thinking of running an online Templot dabble session after Scaleforum closes, if anyone would be interested?

More about this idea: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7132

Martin,

A bit off topic but what's the music in the background? Sounds C20th English to me (it's not Delius, could it be very early Berg?). Sorry should be playing trains not being a music geek.

Stupid question from an IT luddite, but the original welcome page for the forum included a "log in" link. When I tried to use the link, the system and I failed to find any common ground as to user name or password. I note that this link has just disappeared from the page.
As I have a (suitably socially distance) sub group of the BS4 area group coming to share the day with me tomorrow, failure to connect is not an option, so will we need to log in?

Interacting as we are now, by question and answer on the forum, requires logging in (or using the guest book). Clearly you succeeded in coming to a common understanding with the forum software about the password and username to use.

The vast majority of the show will simply require you to browse pages without logging in. Some pages will work best if you download a PowerPoint presentation. All of these are available in PowerPoint or PDF form.

I do anticipate that a big part of the work tomorrow will be helping people to log in. Start at webmaster@scalefour.org, or the contact details published in the last Scalefour news.
