Model OHLE and curves

Postby jim s-w » Wed Oct 02, 2013 4:21 pm

Following on from a discussion on another thread I thought I would list the mast spacings for overhead relative to curves. The spacing refers to the distance between the registration arms and is based on maximum stagger of 4mm either side of the center line. these are worked out by drawing the curve and measuring the gaps - I'm sure theres a more scientific way bit this will give you an idea.

The maximum gap allowed on the straights scales out at 984mm (75 meter spacing) although the typical spacing is 853mm (65 meter spacing or 3 mark 3 coaches)

on curves it works out as follows

3ft radius - 235mm (this is less than the length of a mk1 coach)
4ft radius - 270mm
5ft radius - 300mm
6ft radius - 330mm
7ft radius - 360mm
8ft radius - 385mm
9ft radius - 410mm

hope this helps
