My latest addition to the rear of the roundhouse is the Wash-house/Toilet block which along with the Wheel drop were part of the LMS modernisation programme of the 1930's. During this period the yard layout of the shed was changed to include the Coal and Ash plants that were installed to improve the flow of servicing steam locomotives. This was carried out in 1938 but I am not sure of the build dates of the wheel drop or wash house although I can say it was before 1949 as they are shown in an aerial photo in my collection.

The model of the Wash-house/ Toilet block is constructed from 60thou plasticard with a Slaters brick overlay. Dimensions were scaled using bricks and a plan view of the aerial photo.

Brilliant, Robin,
That 'dead area' has really come alive hasn't it?
Cheers,
Steve

Very nice, Robin. Shame BR couldn't find the right Jubilee to pose in the entrance.
Some interesting details around the shed opening - some sore of protector plate(?), pipe or conduit and the swinging jib crane on the shed wall. No doubt all to be represented in due course?
Dave.

Lots of detailing to add Dave, Hong Kong arrived in the post from David today hence it's appearance and I don't have a model of LFB Trafalgar yet.
Thanks for the kind comments chaps.

Brilliant Robin. This evocative scene brings back memories when, as a child in the 50's, I accompanied my Dad to get his Goods Guard pay from the shed at Nottingham. We descended a cinder track to the back of number three shed and went around the turntable to the pay office. Thanks for bringing it all back.

A very good outcome Robin. I was wondering about the construction technique. Sometimes gluing two pieces of stryene as you have done will result in distortion although in the past I have only used 40 thou thick for the interior so perhaps the additional thickness makes a difference? What adhesive was used?

Ken, The model brings back memories of my many visits around the shed in the early 60's, I'm pleased it has brought back memories for you too.
Terry, the main structure of the model is 60thou plasticard which I have braced with a couple of internal walls. The solvent I have used is mainly Limonene which is not as aggressive as Butanone.

Strange as it might sound, a not too grimy green Trafalgar is the one I associate as a regular with Barrow Road. Having lived a few doors away from the shed in its final few years never once was the other one underlined in my Abc.

Roy, Trafalgar was a regular at the shed. After the short firebox Jubilees were transferred to Shrewsbury in late 1961 three Long firebox ones, Trafalgar, Barfleur and Leander remained with Trafalgar withdrawn at Bath Shed after failing on a special at Bath Green Park 19th May 1964 She was still on Bath shed on 3rd October that year having been withdrawn after a decision was made not to proceed with any repair.

Thanks Robin. I have some Limonene but tend to use it when fixing clear material. I shall have to give it a go for other applications.
