Bachmann Compound 41140
My latest conversion of a RTR loco is Bachmann Compound 4P 41157 which I have renumbered 41140 as I have a photo of it on shed.
Conversion follows my now standard method using Alan Gibson wheels with Markits 10BA crankpins, reusing the Bachmann motion.
The tender has a Dave Franks chassis but this time I had to leave off the water pickup gear in order to add extra pickups on the two rear axles of the tender. I'm pleased with the conversion.
Here is a video of 41140 on a Gloucester to Bristol TM local passing Barrow Road MPD

How did you compensate the loco chassis?

Re: Bachmann Compound 41140
I do not bother with any compensation as there is enough vertical movement in the axles of most RTR engines to cope with my trackwork. The tender however has a csb Fowler tender by Dave Franks.

Here are a couple of photos of 41140 following weathering by Gerry Beale.

By no means a favourite type of loco, for me, but a lovely looking model and very nicely weathered by Gerry.
Looks like there has been more scenic progress on the layout.
Dave.

I wonder if a little video will make it any more likeable for you Dave?
Another fun afternoon spent with Robin and Mike

You’ve got the rods the wrong way round Robin. The coupling rods go outside of the connecting rods on a compound

Nah! Very smooth and impressive get away with a significant train, as I said, a lovely model - but where's the outside valve gear and the third driving axle?

Robin, I am so impressed by the layout and how you get the rolling stock to run! I do enjoy watching your Youtube clips. I am amazed at your techniques for the locos (and rolling stock) as I know most are RTR conversions. We need more information on each of the classes that you do so we can all achieve such performance at a smaller amount of effort with what is available from the RTR manufacturers.... Still love to see a V2 though!
I might point out that Barrow road is comming along nicely and the trackwork is brilliant which certainly is matched to the locos!

Doug, thanks for your kind comments. My next conversion will be a Hornby K1 - I have photos of two K1's on shed at Barrow Road - and I am awaiting the arrival of a set of P4 wheels from Colin at AG.
As you have asked I will post a conversion thread on my Workbench - hopefully I can make a start in the next few weeks.
Incidentally at least two V2s visited the shed an I have a photo of one - a future conversion maybe

Love the close ups on video but you do need a crew to make it more convincing. The compound does look great.

Thank you John. I have made a start with the Johnson 1F tank and I have around 20 crew painted and ready to install. I promise I will get around to it

Very nice indeed Robin. Which sound decoder and sound file (project) have you used in the Compound please?

Pete, the sound decoder is a 21pin Zimo MX644D from Coastal DCC loaded with the sound file listed on their 4P Compound Project. I have used a Rail Exclusive Mini Sugar Cube Speaker.

Re: Bachmann Compound 41140
Thanks Robin. My Compound has a Howes sound project loaded onto an ESU Loksound V4 decoder, a combination I'm not very satisfied with. I think a change may well be forthcoming.
