Marshlink Area Group Meeting 15th December 2022
Despite the weather 6 members attended our pre Christmas meeting in Rye.
Steve Carter had brought along a couple of new wagons from Rapido. Apart from looking extremely good they also converted easily to P4 by just dropping in new wheels. Whether intentionally or not the brakes align perfectly.
David Lowe showed his latest venture in 3D printing with an exquisite, multi layered set of windows he has developed for a friends O gauge layout.
Bob Cummings brought along a very fine model of a multi signal gantry for his new Chatsbury layout. Modelled on the gantry controlling the exit from platform 1 at Bath Green Park, Bob has just managed to get all the controls working.
Bob also announced that he will be disposing of a number of his locos (all Southern). Both James and Steve expressed interest so Bob will bring a few along to the January meeting.
Ben Mason announced that he has now acquired the requisite number of sheep for his proposed layout but that they are currently stuck in the post.
James Walters showed us a turntable mechanism he has designed and built using some 3D printing. His long term idea is to have it installed in a roundhouse on the layout with a touch screen interface accessible by the public. The exact details of how to do this with sufficient safety controls to avoid conflicts are yet to be defined.
The other main topic of conversation was news of the demise of Eileens Emporium which is regarded as a blow for all kit and scratch build modellers. Best wishes were extended to Derek and his family.
Steve provided refresments and mince pies with Greg and Bob supplementing the latter.
Next meeting January 19th.
