Marshlink Area Group Meeting 15th September 2022
6 members met at St Mary’s church hall in Rye. Steve Carter, Ian Moon and James Walters were unavailable.
The evenings topic was lining following a request from Brian Smith to hear what skills and techniques worked for each member. The answer is that one member uses a bowpen for everything, one uses both bowpen and transfers and the remaining 3 have only used transfers.
Bob Cummings, the bowpen user, described the methods he’d been taught and which he still uses. He also brought in a range of equipment and examples of lining on a tender and loco. He also demonstrated the production of boiler bands using insulating tape.
Greg Coady showed a couple of coach models he had lined with a bow pen.
A couple of members unfamiliar with the bowpen draw a few lines on paper to get a feel for its use.
Brian also produced a trio of wagons he had built to sit on a siding for condemned stock on his layout and requested opinions on how much more distressing was needed. The general opinion was that they were very convincing as they were and needed no further work.
Next meeting is 20th October
