New Batteries

Postby JackBlack » Thu Feb 27, 2020 3:07 pm

I've been back and forth between London and Portugal a bit the last few weeks so not a huge amount of progress on anything. However I have been experimenting with some new batteries that David Catton discovered, which has been quite exciting.

These are 10440 batteries (10mm by 44mm - AAA size), they are lithium rechargeable and have 1000mAh capacity and cost around £2 each:

The above photo shows the basic battery on the left, and on the right with charging protection circuit, wires and shrink wrapped.

These are significantly smaller than my previous 14430 batteries with higher capacity, probably giving between 7 and 8 hours of continuous running (bear in mind I can fit a 14430 comfortably into the boiler of a 4mm GWR 517):

I'll currently working on a Finney Pannier Tank that will use one of these 10440 batteries along with a N10 motor, I'll post something about that later...

Cheers, Nick
