North Elmham NNAG Layout

Postby Tim Horn » Wed May 01, 2019 9:48 am

We had a very productive meeting last Monday (29th April) with the result of two of the new baseboards being ready for tracklaying.

North Elmham is beginning to take shape!

I like the built-in masking feature to protect the identy of those who may be about to commit modelling...

'Commit Modelling' - That's priceless! Will remember that one. Like it's a cultural crime. (is to some!)

Thanks for the funny feels. 8-)

:)

I had a very busy work day on Thursday but Denis, John L and Tim D came over to lay the first part of the trackwork which Denis and Tim have been working on over the last few months. John C has been cracking on with wagons so it's good to see another bit of progress!

Six months has passed

Just to bring this thread up to date, I had a major change around at the unit to locate my third machine.

Which gave me the opportunity to do a bit of change upstairs, so we now have a permanent place to leave North Elmham set up for working on :D

Just to bring the layout page up to date, we got the boards ready for filming by Denis a few months ago for todays virtual show, I hope you all enjoyed it :D

A few pics to complement the film by Denis

Cheers,
Tim

PS. Just the normal caveats for a work in progress layout, buildings are representations and the polystyrene platform is just to show the required/space size etc etc. . . .

Thanks iak,

Whilst here I'll mention that Tim's last two or three photos show the mezzanine which will be the layout's home base. The restricted space here is what forced the continuous curve format which we reckon has worked to an aesthetic advantage.

What is very noticeable in these pictures and the temporary building placement is the awkwardness of the large building on the edge of the board (the Granary). Not an ideal location and will cause a bit of an obstruction to viewing. We've been thinking of ways to get round this including a partially "see through" building. Nevertheless, with the curve allowing a decent viewing angle from either side perhaps we shouldn't worry.

All the best,
Denis

I wouldn’t worry Denis

As I’ve said Tim before, I like a layout with view blockers.

Thanks Ian and Jim,

It's a good looking layout I think, one building we've not discussed yet is the granary extension. I can't find a date (ground signals are still in place) as to when it was constructed, but it looks nice and would sit at the front left next to the original big building as seen above.
