Slater's PO wagons

Postby Hardwicke » Mon May 15, 2023 11:13 am

I'm making a separate post about Slater's private owner wagons as I've a lot to build/rebuild.
First up, Gloucester six plank Thomas T Pascoe if Swansea.
I have a couple of these mostly bought second hand but the w-iron disinterested when I tried to get the old bearings out and remove the solebar which was badly positioned. The whole underframe and body was skewed out of kilter.
The whole wagon was dis-assembled, and planks scored inside instead of the raised moulding. It was then painted.
Reassembled using magnetic jigs.
I bought some w-irons from Slater's a few months back and they bent up beautifully. Some of the best I've experienced.

Instone had a visit to the works today. After a trial run on Eccleston it was not happy. One spring wire had dislodged and during an attempt to refit it I snapped the whole w-iron and axlebox off. Both have been repaired now

After a recent look in Bill Hudson's book I've noticed the lettering is wrong.
Another job to do and the perils of second hand purchases.
