Forge Mill Sidings
Forge Mill Sidings
Forge Mill Sidings will be at Nottingham Exhibition. Hopefully past glitches have been ironed out. New ones are sure to arise.

Re: Forge Mill Sidings
I'm surprised the layout is still looking good. It has now been to Scaleforum twice, Scalefour North, Scalefour Southwest/Scalewells, HMRS Butterley, NSR Churnet Valley, DEMU, South Hants (Waterlooville) and Nottingham. I must build more stock.

Re: Forge Mill Sidings
I'm amazed how great and convincing a scene you have created with what looks to be just two points....or is it a plug in module for extension to another layout that exists in the present or future?

Re: Forge Mill Sidings
Thanks for the compliments. Well it was constrained by the rules of the Scalefour 1883 Challenge but I didn't compress much. Less than a foot was lost between the running lines and the mill. Ok I took extreme liberties with the running line. Lots of people ask if I'll extend it. I thought about it, as I could include the gantry signal, bought specially for beyond the crossing and I'd be able to run realistic services dropping off and picking up wagons, but I would have to model the mill lake. I'm not keen on that. I've nowhere to store another board, nor transport it in the car. Perhaps if I had built Upwell Street yard in Sheffield instead, a modular layout would have been an option. But eventually the answer is probably no. I've got to finish/rebuild/extend Kirkcliffe, and repair/finish Swanage anyway.

Fair enough. Thanks for explaining.
Does look convincing and spacious.

Looks like nature is beginning to take over. Nice!

Very clever to get the floor covering to match the cloth round the layout. Blends in very well!

I've found the actual name of the real box now. Hucknall No 1 Colliery Junction Sidings.

Re: Forge Mill Sidings
Forge Mill Sidings appeared at Ruddington - Great Central (Nottingham) over the last weekend of June/first July. On the Saturday, a broken power connection prevented full running, but I did have a back up. Sunday was much better.
I think I will tidy up/re-wire parts of the layout, both to make it neater and improve reliability. The basic ideas still hold true, using computer sockets in a "plug and play" manner. It was hot all weekend.
Thanks to the GC(Nottingham) for inviting me.
