I'm sure heavy handling by various ice cream sellers would have caused damage in day-to-day use so your model just looks like a well used working bike to me David.

On the matter of bikes... Does anyone have any idea what colour post men's bikes were pre-WW2? I guess it would have the large crate on the front as per the Dart Castings kit?
