Early GWR livery

How far from the edge of the cream panels was the inner inset lining drawn on early GWR coaches?

Realistically nobody knows, but the latest edition of Great Western Way has a scheme produced by BR(W) in 1952 for a film company which shows a 1/8" brown line 1/4" in from the edge of the cream panel, which works out at near enough .001"and .003".

If that's the case I won't add them. I thought it was further inside than that judging from these photos - apologies for any infringement of ©.

It's very nice to see someone actually taking the trouble to reproduce this aspect of the lining. It's all too often omitted from pre-1908 models (although this inner line was not included when lining out was re-introduced in 1922).

The inner line was still there inside the panels when the all "chocolate" livery was introduced in 1908, but nobody seems to know what (lighter) colour it was in that case. Any guesses?

It appears that pre 1908 there was an inner line - but was it about 3 inches from the edge?

'gold' (in GWR parlance, but translates to pale straw in more modern colour terms)
