The six-monthly evening meeting in Bedford on 19th September attracted seven members and we had a fair bit to admire. Dennis Stephens had acquired via eBay a Bachmann Super D loco and tender body and all necessary Gibson wheels for £5 but the Bill Bedford chassis kit set him back rather more. Tony Manktelow showed an NRM dynamometer car and three 5&9 wagon kits of pre-grouping prototypes. Mike Morley brought a Hornby Terrier and some scale wheels for it. Chris Foren passed round a Brassmasters 8 ft wb coach bogie frame for a Ratio LNWR coach that he is building for a friend. Tim Easter showed an O&K 0-6-0WT comprising a 3D printed body on a Roco chassis, a Dapol Silver Bullet with new bogies by Jonathan Hall and a partially resprayed Bachmann 37. Subjects for discussion included the niceties of 3D printing, lost wax casting, the Woking show and ideas for a future workshop day.
The Group's catchment area enbraces Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month. The next will be on Wednesday 17th October 2018 at the Engineer, St John's Road, Harpenden, commencing at 2 pm. It will be preceded by informal lunch at 12.45 pm for 1 pm.
Advance notice: the January meeting will be an afternoon meeting in St Albans, preceded by informal lunch. The group organiser, Tim Easter, is giving an organ recital at St Albans Abbey from 12.30 pm. He invites all music lovers to join him there and at the lunch and meeting afterwards. Details of the venue will be given nearer the time.
