Meeting report August 2018

Postby chrisf » Mon Aug 20, 2018 10:39 am

Nine members and one guest came together at the Engineer on 15th August. That the largest available table would accommodate only seven was just one of those things, but we managed.
For once there was very little for those present to inspect and admire, the recent heatwave being generally agreed not to be conducive to modelling. Geoff Gauntlett showed a Pug chassis built from a High Level kit with Ultrascale wheels. He was uncertain as to the cause of its lumpy running but the assembled brains were sure that the quartering was slightly out – easily fixed. Alan Rhodes produced the latest and final volume of Roger Harris’s monumental work on dmu allocations, mostly covering second generation stock. Tony Manktelow passed round the latest wagon book by David Larkin, containing rarely published information on private owner wagons among other things. John Turner reported that he had built a barrow crossing for his layout which we hope to see in situ in due course. The customary incidental discussion embraced the Genoa viaduct collapse, Pendon and its thatched cottages, the Thameslink timetable, recycling and holiday cottages among other abstruse subjects.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday 19th September at the Brewhouse and Kitchen, High Street, Bedford, at 7.30 pm. In October we meet at the Engineer, St Johns Road, Harpenden, at 2 pm, preceded by informal lunch at 12.45 pm for 1 pm.
