Meeting report May 2018

Postby chrisf » Thu May 17, 2018 2:34 pm

Our meeting on 16th May was hosted by John Haywood of Hemel Hempstead in his garden. His new test track was not quite ready so half a dozen willing helpers gave him a hand laying the inner circuit. The outer, EM, circuit was christened with John’s converted Tri-ang dock shunter of great antiquity and Brian Webb soon put the inner, OO, circuit to good use by testing a Bachmann E4 and a Hornby 2-HAL ahead of their conversion to P4. John Turner tested a Hornby 42xx which was destined to be converted to EM and detailed with Brassmasters parts. John Hutchins ran a Bachmann Class 25 and Heljan Class 20, both EM’d with Ultrascale wheels and John Haywood ran a Heljan 1361 and 1366. Tim Easter showed a Dundas narrow-gauge wagon which he had distressed with a scraperboard knife and a Bachmann 7 planker destined for the same treatment. The discussion was not so wide ranging this time, embracing lineside fencing and low temperature soldering. Those attending would like to thank John for his hospitality, particularly the home-made Welsh cakes - a rare delicacy in Hemel Hempstead.

The Chilterns Area Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting is scheduled for 20th June at a member's home. Please contact Tim Easter for further particulars.
