Meeting report April 2018

Postby chrisf » Thu Apr 19, 2018 8:15 am

Six members sat down to lunch at the Engineer in Harpenden on 18th April, joined afterwards by three more members including a newcomer to the Group, Geoff Gauntlett. Geoff had brought a DJH 02 diesel with new chassis for us to admire. E-bay king John Hutchins showed a Bachmann Class 25 converted with Ultrascale wheels and a Hawthorn Leslie tank built from a High Level kit. Brian Webb passed round a beautifully bound selection of his railway photographs which was much admired, even though Brian had reservations about some of the captions. Chris Foren showed a pipette/ hypodermic for dispensing soldering flux and a venerable Airfix LMS suburban brake third which he was in the process of upgrading, while Tim Easter produced a rare LMS brake second built for the North London services, made from two or more Airfix coaches cut and shut. A Heljan Clsss 47 brought by Alan Rhodes prompted a discussion on Mazak rot which moved on to blocked hypodermic needles, lanyards, trolleybuses, the NHS and much, much more.

The Chilterns Area Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month. The May meeting is to be hosted by John Haywood of Hemel Hempstead who has set a limit on attendance. Anyone who wishes to attend and does not already have John's contact particulars please send me a PM and we will see what we can do.

The very useful discussion of flux and syringes is now split into a new topic:
