Meeting report, February 2018

Eleven members did their best to crowd round the table on 21st February at The Engineer in Harpenden. John Haywood brought his new Kernow model of the Southern diesel 10201 which was admired by those present despite aficionados of modern traction being in the minority. The manufacturer’s use of 1.5 mm axles may present some difficulties in conversion but there was a feeling that the job will not be impossible. Geoff Latham, our radio control expert, showed his Dapol GWR diesel railcar with conspicuous improvements to the interior and a much smaller motor. For his Auchinraith project, Tim Easter had been working on permanent way wagons and showed a Seacow, a Stingray and several Sea Urchins, explaining the differing sources and build methods. Tony Manktelow reported on the exhibition debut at Biggleswade of Milton Camel, a challenge cameo layout in which several group members had been involved. This led to a discussion of the show itself which for once rather polarised opinion.

The next meting will be held on Wednesday 21st March at the Brewhouse and Kitchen, 115 High Street, Bedford MK40 1NU, commencing at 7.30 pm.
