Eight members gathered for lunch at the Engineer on 17th January, joined later by three non-diners. Tim Easter showed a Bachmann VGA fitted with a flashing tail lamp controlled by DCC and an OBA from the same stable on which the distinctly iffy swivel axleguards had been replaced by Bill Bedford sprung W-irons fitted with DCC Concepts wheels. He had also begun work on re-powering a Lima Class 101 dmu with a mechanism based on a Bachmann Class 24, promising to be much less conspicuous than in some recent new products. Alan Rhodes passed round a new album of photographs taken by H C Casserley in and around Berkhamsted and John Hutchins showed some Finnish motors intended for DVD players which could easily replace Lima pancake motors. The presence of exhibition manager David Crossley prompted some discussion on the recent Stevenage show, lauded by all, and as usual many other subjects were discussed. One which provoked a frank if not full exchange of views was flexible gangways between coaches which may well come up again.

Next meeting: Wednesday 21st February, 7.30 pm, The Engineer, St John's Road, Harpenden, Herts AL5 1DJ
